Flynnie’s Forecheck – DFS NHL Pickem Slate for Draftkings 11-15

Just a little about me, I am a cash game guy at heart. But, I love taking occasional shots in GPP’s and bigger leagues with the more volatile sports. If I’m being honest with myself and you guys these will be more cash in nature.

Regardless of your style, you need correlation, Pick Em works the same way. Cash, you need two or three guys (same line/different PP or different line/same PP – spread it out as much as possible), for GPP’s stack up a whole line or whole PP unit and live and die by it – you either get all the points or none of the points.

In Slack we have been discussing a new stat that will be added to my analysis and Jim Keenan (@rk101785 in Slack)’s chart breakdown in Slack. In addition to CA (Corsi against) and CF (Corsi for) we added BS + SOG (Blocked shots + shots on goalin the last 10 games). On DraftKings each is worth 0.5 points and if we can find players that consistently shoot and block shots our floor will be raised significantly. In this article all corsi numbers are season long and all points and BS+SOG are last-10. It seems to be working well, so far. As you know, nothing is a guarantee in NHL DFS except wild swings of highs and lows. Even cash games are frustrating at times.

All my numbers come from RG, Corsica.hockey or Left Wing Lock or Vegas Insider for the money lines. If you need any explanation or just want to say hi feel free to DM me or tag me in Slack. Back to a short three-game slate tonight.

CGY @ DET
NYR @ CHI
BOS @ANA

Tier 1

Gaudreau (1/PP1)
Pastrnak (1/PP1)
Zibanejad (1/PP1)
Kane (2/PP1)

Kane has the highest CF and BS+SOG in the tier but Chi has been a mess so I’d leave him for GPP only. Gaudreau is where I think I’m going here. He has 14 points in the last ten and his BG+SOG and CF numbers are still very solid.

Tier 2

Bergeron (1/PP1)
Monahan (1/PP1)
Rakell (1/PP1)
Saad (1/PP1)
Toews (1/PP1)

Boston is among the top CF/60 and CA/60 teams in the league. How? I’m not sure, they fail the eyeball test. However, if you’re looking for a nice late night hammer run Bergeron and Pasta. Bergeron has the best BS+SOG numbers in the tier and the only reason his Corsi numbers are down is because he missed some time at the beginning of the season. Rakell has the most points in the last 10, so he’s another good hammer option. Then there’s one of my favorite stacks: Gaudreau/Monahan.

Tier 3

Buchnevich (1/PP1)
Giordano (PP2)
Tkachuk (2/PP2)
Larkin (2/PP2)
Zuccarello (2/PP1)
Perry (1/PP1)

Giordano has the most CF and BS+SOG in the tier but he only has three points in the last 10. Buchnevich and Tkachuk have very similar numbers, with a slight edge to Buchnevich. I think either of those will be fine depending on how you correlate the rest of your roster.

Tier 4

Mantha (1/PP2)
Nash (2/PP2)
Silfverberg (2/PP1)
Hamilton (PP2)
Krug (PP1)
Kreider (1/PP1)

Hamilton has very similar numbers to Gio, great CF and great BS+SOG but his scoring isn’t there. I think both defensemen are just getting unlucky. Mantha and Krug have the opposite issue, they aren’t shooting much but have been racking up the points in the last 10. But Nash is right there in the middle doing everything well, but not spectacular. He might be your cash guy tonight.

Tier 5

Shattenkirk (PP1)
Zetterberg (1/PP1)
Backlund (2/PP2)
Athanasiou (2/PP2)
Ferland (1/PP1)
Anisimov (2/PP1)

Zetterberg always seems safe for cash but he’s not scoring lately. Shatty and Anisimov have very similar numbers with BS+SOG and points in the last ten but Shatty has the edge in the CF. I love the combo of Backlund/Tkachuk and they always seem to be overlooked compared to Gaudreau/Monahan. But if you use those two, throw Ferland in there for good measure.

Tier 6

Montour (PP2)
Nyquist (1/PP1)
Debrincat (3/PP2)
Tatar (2/PP1)
McAvoy (PP2)
Hayes (2/no PP)
Schmaltz (2/PP1)

I’m leaning toward DeBrincat here, he doesn’t have great BS+SOG but he has 7 points in the last 10 and that leads the tier. Maybe throw him in with Toews for PP2 exposure in cash. Montour/McAvoy would be my other choices here. I think ANA is going to give Boston fits tonight and Montour leads the tier in scoring in the last 10 and McAvoy leads the tier in CF.
