Kickers Corner – Selecting the Right NFL Kicker on Fanduel DFS

Kickers Corner

Are you ready to continue to build your lineups from the bottom up?  If you have not yet done so, check out my posting for Defenses Here.  For many, the way to build is to start from the top, pick out the QB that they want. They leave Def and Kicker to the end and just take whomever you can fit.  For some, they choose to start at the bottom and work their way to the top.  This way no spot goes without proper thought.  I am here to help you by doing that research for you with the focus at the bottom of the roster.

Before the Pick Research

I love to play on Fanduel and one of those reasons is that I believe that the Kicker gives us an advantage.  So many people roster whatever cheap kicker they can place.  About as much thought goes into who they play kicker as they do who’s the boss.  The best thing is, the Kicker might be one of the easiest spots to select.  If you want to know what I look for in selecting a kicker I have you covered in my How to Pick a Kicker to find out.

If you have just found the DFS Army and want to join we have a whole lot of great stuff coming your way.  You can Register For DFS Army VIP Membership Here.  You could even try out a month of the DFS Army free if Want to try a free month of DFS Army VIP Membership?

If you are not convinced on why you should join let me give you a 6 figure reason.  We have a great write up about breaking down the lineup that you can find here.  I will give you a little look into what happened however with jhawksfan

For a quick refresher remember these tips

  1. Teams expected to score over 24 points and favored to win preferably at home.
  2. Teams who play indoors or where the weather is not an issue.
  3. Kickers who can actually kick the ball from distance with high accuracy.
  4. forget about the price, and focus on the skill.

The main reason we want to focus on everything but ignore the price is that no other position on your roster will have more chance to return points based on the difference in salary.  Top priced kickers are 5100, the bottom price is 4500.  Many top options will fall into the 4700 range, that means for 200 more you could easily grab a 15 point kicker whereas the 4500 guys may only be good for 8.

Cash Kickers

Cash kickers will be kickers who can score us a solid 8-10 points.  If they get more that is great, but we really need that safety floor just like any other roster spot.  This could be 1 FG and 3 XP or it could be all FGs.  To find these we will strictly follow the rules laid out above.

  • Brandon McManus
  • Matt Bryant
  • Ka’imi Fairbairn
Brandon McManus

Under 5k in price with a home game against a team who will be lucky to move the ball.  Stack McManus with your Defense and just hope that this is not an off week for McManus.  I count 4 FG attempts this game making an easy 12 point score if McManus doesn’t miss.

Matt Bryant

Another spot where Bryant can perform well if needed.  It isn’t like Bryant has missed a lot of kicks as he is perfect on the season.  The real problem with Bryant is he is just not being used 9 kicks is not a lot, but he is on a team where any week could see him get 3-5 kicks.  I like Bryant for safety but not for GPP.  He feels like a 10 point cash play almost any week.

Ka’imi Fairbairn

The cheapest option on the board with that cash safety.  Fairbairn is in place to set up a great score and if Houston blows out the water and takes their foot off the gas you could see a wonderful multi kick.  This is a wonderful spot for any kicker.  Once again we just run that risk of not getting a lot of use.  Only 9 kicks so far this season which can limit upside but bring that floor.  It only takes one 40 yard FG with 4 XP to bring a solid 8 points.  Anything over that is cake points.

Hybrid Plays

If you are not sure why a hybrid play is I suggest checking out a Geek Favorite to understand what I am talking about.  A quick breakdown, however, is these are players who carry a little more risk for more upside. This is an area where we can kind of skip some of the rules or interpret them our own way.

  • Harrison Butker
  • Giorgio Tavecchio
  • Dustin Hopkins
Harrison Butker

So I am not one to hide when I am wrong.  I did not care for Butker last week against Houston.  If Houston did not lose two big defensive players early maybe my call would have worked out better.  Still, he was a kicker on the road against a defense that I felt was going to cause some issues.  None of that worked out and Butker became one of the best plays of the slate for nothing in cost.  This week we only see a 200 increase and we now get him at home in a favored game with an ITT over 24.  Fire him up in any lineup you are not stacking KC offensive weapons.

Giorgio Tavecchio

The cheapest value on the slate that I like to play is Tavecchio.  He has just not been getting any attempts to really make him a safe play.  If you are looking for a cheap option this is your best bet.  There are a couple 4500 options that can be GPP if you really need to save.  This is a play if you have 100 left over with one of those guys upgrade here for a safer pick who could still bust.

Dustin Hopkins

My favorite play from the slate is right here with Mr. Hopkins 4700 but 11 point favorite at home against SF.  Hopkins best games come from when his team is just massive up.  Washington can blow away the competition and if they do blow away SF that means Hopkins should start getting kick after kick.

GPP Kickers

This group of kickers may score you 0 points but they offer the upside of 20 points if things go your way.  These are the guys you may only play if you are going MME and looking to be different.  They are also the kickers who may win you that 30,000 person contest.  Of course, they are also the same ones who could lose it for you.  RISK BE WARNED!

  • Jason Myers
  • Robbie Gould
  • Wil Lutz

These kickers are risky.  Each offers something that I see where we could end up with a great score.  For more on that join me in Slack and let’s talk about them together.
