Blande’s Bland Take: WNBA DFS Rundown and Picks 8/6

We are back today with a three game main slate. The season is rolling and games are getting intense as teams battle for playoff positions. This should make for great DFS opportunities. Vegas is predicting a close battle between Phoenix and Washington, a high scoring comfortable win for LA, and a Minnesota blowout. The money line has moved significantly towards Minnesota since opening from -600 to -900 presently. Keep these in mind as you read further and make your picks. With that, let’s dive into the player picks.

Phoenix Mercury @ Washington Mystics (-3, ML: -170) – O/U: 159

Since Griner went down injured, the Mercury have struggled on the defensive end. One of the key calls we have is high usage and minutes guards and forwards against the Mercury. This firmly puts Kristi Tolliver and Emma Meesseman in play today. Do not sleep on Krystal Thomas either, centers have been successful against Phoenix.

Centers are about average against the Mystics, and forwards struggle to perform against them. The only real interest I have here are in the Mercury guards, beginning with Diana Taurasi. Danielle Robinson and Monique Currie could also perform.

Los Angeles Spark (-7, ML: -300) @ Dallas Wings – O/U: 170.5

Centers and forwards have great games against the Wings who can’t defend bigs, hello Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike. Do not sleep on Jantel Lavender either, this could be her kind of game. The Wings are relatively good against guards, limiting interest in the Sparks guards.

Everyone struggles against the Sparks. However, looking at the history between these two, the last time they played in Dallas, Glory Johnson and Skylar Diggins-Smith where able to have good games. Aerial Powers also showed up big time in their last face-off.

Minnesota Lynx (-12, ML: -900) @ Indiana Fever – O/U: 160.5

Another key play we have is centers against the Fever. You can lock in Sylvia Fowles who has been on a monster tear as the race for MVP intensifies. Forwards do not have as much success here, although Maya Moore is always in play. High usage and minutes guards perform well against the Fever. With Lindsay Whalen out after hand surgery, the task of leading this offense at PG falls on Renee Montgomery. You can lock her in here. If Seimone Augustus returns, she will be in play too.

Centers and forwards are no goes against the Lynx. Guards are the only place you can try attacking them. Shooters and high usage ball handlers are the best bet here. Look to Erica Wheeler, Tiffany Mitchell and Jazmon Gwathmey here.
