Baltimore Orioles (Kevin Gausman- R) @ New York Yankees (CC Sabathia- L)

GAUSMAN:

– Gausman has looked awful out of the gate: 1-2, 7.50 ERA and 2.04 WHIP
– Allowed 8 hits in 3 of his 5 starts this season, at least 3 walks in 3 of his 5 starts as well
– Faced the Yankees back on April 8th: 4.2 IP, 8 H/3 BB, 4 ER, 4 Ks (ND). He was solid against them last season, though, with a 3-1 record and a 1.10 ERA in 6 starts last season.

ORIOLES OFFENSE:

–  Orioles aren’t even hitting right now, but they’re still winning games

* Lots of BvP history against Sabathia:

+ Adam Jones: 22-for-73 (4 2B, 3B, 5 HR, 4 BB, 9 Ks)
+ Manny Machado: 14-for-45 (5 2B, HR, 3 BB, 3 Ks)
+ JJ Hardy: 14-for-43 (5 2B, HR, 2 BB, 4 Ks)

– Chris Davis: 9-for-40 (HR, 18 Ks)
– Mark Trumbo: 9-for-33 (2B, HR, 7 Ks)
– Jonathan Schoop: 5-for-22 (2 2B, BB, 4 Ks)

SABATHIA:

+ Yankees are an MLB-best 8-1 at home this season
+ Hasn’t’ been that bad so far with a 2-1 record, 2.70 ERA and 1.20 WHIP.

–  CC’s only bad start so far this season was his last one @ PIT
–  CC’s velocity was down a whole 3 mph last start from his 92.4 mph average this season

* We all know the struggles of the Orioles against LHPs, and this could be another saga. CC held the O’s to 2 ER over 6 innings earlier this month, and he had a 3.19 ERA in 8 starts against them over the last 3 seasons.

YANKEES OFFENSE:

+ Didi Gregorius will return to the Yankees lineup tonight.

* A couple Yankees have had their fair share of at-bats against Gausman:

+ Brett Gardner: 10-for-31 (2 2B, HR, 8 Ks)
+ Starlin Castro: 5-for-17 (2 2B, 7 Ks)
+ Ronald Torreyes: 5-for-12 (2B, 2 Ks)
–  Jacoby Ellsbury: 7-for-34 (2B, 3 Ks)
–  Didi Gregorius: 4-for-23 (all singles, 4 Ks)

New York Mets (Jacob DeGrom- R) @ Washington Nationals (Max Scherzer- R)

DEGROM:

+ 0-1 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.22 WHIP this season – 32 Ks in 24.2 innings
–  Took the L vs this same Nationals team last time out: 5.2 IP, 8 H/6 BB, 3 ER, 10 Ks – 101 pitches
–  Mets are on a six-game losing streak and 1-10 in their last 11 games

METS OFFENSE:

+ This just feels like a spot that the Mets can turn it around, based on how this whole cockeyed season has gone so far.

* Notable BvP numbers against Scherzer:

+ Curtis Granderson: 9-for-30 (3 2B, 2 HR, 7 BB, 7 Ks)
+ Jose Reyes: 6-for-20 (2B, 4 Ks)
+ Michael Conforto: 5-for-12 (3 HR, 3 Ks)
+ Jay Bruce: 3-for-10 (3B, HR, 2 BB, 2 Ks)
–  Asdrubal Cabrera: 13-for-58 (4 2B, HR, 3 BB, 18 Ks)
–  Neil Walker: 4-for-19 (3 HR, 2 BB, 6 Ks)

SCHERZER:

+ Stellar as always: 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA and 0.83 WHIP – 33 Ks in 27.2 innings
+ Just faced this same Mets team on Sunday and got the W: 8 IP, 5 H/1 BB, 3 ER (2 HR), 9 Ks. Scherzer has 55 Ks against the Mets over his last 5 starts.
+ Nationals are 9-1 in their last 10 games, all of which came on the road

NATIONALS OFFENSE:

+ Daniel Murphy has done nothing but mangle the Mets after they let go of him two seasons ago: .386 avg, 8 HR and 25 RBI in 22 games.
+ Trea Turner: 11-for-21 (2 HR, 9 RBI) in the 4-game series against the Rockies this week
+ Bryce Harper, how could we forget him, is already looking like the early NL MVP. His teammate Ryan Zimmerman is also on a tear right now.

* Notable BvP numbers against DeGrom:

+ Bryce Harper: 7-for-18 (2 2B, HR, 4 BB, 3 Ks)
+ Ryan Zimmerman: 4-for-11 (HR, 5 Ks)
–  Jayson Werth: 1-for-12 (2 BB, 3 Ks)
–  Michael Taylor: 0-for-11 (5 Ks)
–  Anthony Rendon: 0-for-11 (3 BB, 3 Ks)

Tampa Bay Rays (Blake Snell- L) @ Toronto Blue Jays (Marcus Stroman- R)

SNELL:

* No quality starts yet in 4 tries for Snell, but he’s got one of the best matchups in baseball lately. He did face the Jays in his first start of the season and his night was ruined on one pitch- a grand slam to Kendrys Morales. In that game: 6.2 IP, 3 H/5 BB, 5 R (4 ER)/1 HR, 5 Ks- 97 pitches (L).

– Snell had 5 walks in his last start, which ties a career-high for him. He’s also gone 5 innings or fewer in 3 consecutive starts and 7 of his last 8.

RAYS OFFENSE:

+ Tim Beckham is on a seven-game hitting streak and homered twice in his last game.

* BvP numbers against Stroman:

+ Evan Longoria: 9-for-24 (2 2B, 2 HR, 2 BB, 4 Ks)
+ Corey Dickerson: 5-for-17 (2 2B, HR, BB, 3 Ks)
+ Steven Souza Jr: 4-for-12 (2 2B, 2 BB, 2 Ks)
–  Kevin Kiermaier: 4-for-21 (2 2B, 2 BB, 2 Ks)
–  Brad Miller: 4-for-19 (3B, BB, 3 Ks)
–  Logan Morrison: 4-for-15 (all singles)

STROMAN:

+ Skilled the Rays in his first start of the season: 6.1 IP, 6 H/2 BB, 1 ER, 5 Ks- 89 pitches (W). Stroman is 4-4 with a 4.41 ERA in 8 career starts against them.
+ Stroman has pitched 2 complete games already this season and also has 3 quality starts in 4 tries. He also comes into this start allowing opposing hitters to average launch angle of 1 degree- MLB hitters as a whole have a slugging percentage of .295 on batted balls of 1 degree or lower. –via MLB.com

–  3-4 with a 4.84 ERA against TB over the last 3 seasons.

BLUE JAYS OFFENSE:

+ Russell Martin: 7-for-19 with 2 HR over the last 5 games

* Not a whole lot of history for these current Jays against Snell. None of them have more than 8 plate appearances against him: Russell Martin (0-for-6, 2 BB), Kevin Pillar (0-for-5), Devon Travis (3-for-4, all singles), Jose Bautista (0-for-4, 2 BB), Steve Pearce (0-for-4, 2 Ks).

Chicago Cubs (Jake Arrieta- R) @ Boston Red Sox (Drew Pomeranz- L)

ARRIETA:

+ Started out the season with 2 quality starts (@STL, @MIL), but has fallen just short of expectations in his last 2 (vs PIT, @CIN). Overall, Arrieta is 3-0 with a 3.65 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.
+ Arrieta has some history here at Fenway Park, as he almost threw a no-hitter here 3 years ago.

CUBS OFFENSE:

+ Kris Bryant: 10-for-24 (3 2B, 6 R) over the last 6 games
+ Anthony Rizzo: 4 HR in his last 6 games

– Not much history at all against Pomeranz- Anthony Rizzo is 0-for-8 and Miguel Montero is 1-for-7 with a double and 5 Ks.

POMERANZ:

+ Always love this guy’s strikeout upside, but this is as formidable an opponent as there is out there.
+ Lights out in his season debut vs BAL, but has labored a bit in the last 2 starts. Overall, Pomeranz is 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.
+ 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA and .148 opp avg against the Cubs in 3 career starts

RED SOX OFFENSE:

+ If I’m going to attack Arrieta, it’ll be with right-handed bats. His cutter can get in on the hands of lefties and they have had less power against him because of it.

–  Red Sox only have 13 runs in their last 7 games.

* Not much familiarity against Arrieta: Dustin Pedroia is 4-for-16 (HR, BB, 4 Ks) and Mitch Moreland (2-for-6, HR, 2 BB) are the only Red Sox worth mentioning.

Seattle Mariners (Ariel Miranda- L) @ Cleveland Indians (Carlos Carrasco- R)

MIRANDA:

– His only “quality” start came against a Marlins team that was mentally and physically drained after making the longest trip in the majors, from Miami to Seattle.

* Severe home/road splits as a Mariner
+ Home: 5-1, 3.08 ERA in 9 appearances (8 starts)
–   Road:  1-3, 5.59 ERA in 7 appearances (6 starts)

MARINERS OFFENSE:

+ Nelson Cruz: 10-for-19 (2 2B, 3 HR, 11 RBI) over the last 6 games
+ Jean Segura: 7-for-16 (2B, HR) over the last 3 games

* There is very little familiarity with most of these Mariners and Carrasco: Robinson Cano (6-for-14, 2 2B, HR) is really the only one for him to worry about and Kyle Seager (2-for-6, HR) has touched him up once. Jarrod Dyson (3-for-16, 5 Ks), Nelson Cruz (3-for-14, 2 2B) and Danny Valencia (0-for-8) have all had their struggles.

CARRASCO:

+ Largest favorite of the day (-200) according to Vegas
+ Has been one of the best pitchers in the majors thus far. 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. 27 strikeouts in 27.1 innings and 3 quality starts in 4 tries, the only one he did not he fell 1 out shy.
+ 2-1, 2.79 ERA in 4 starts against the Mariners

INDIANS OFFENSE:

+ Jose Ramirez: 8-for-24 (2 2B, HR) over the last 6 games
+ Michael Brantley, Edwin Encarnacion and Francisco Lindor have all homered twice over the last week. Miranda has shown that he is an extreme fly ball pitcher early on in his MLB career and he has given up 5 HR already in 20.2 innings this season

* No one from this Indians team has ever faced Miranda

Chicago White Sox (Mike Pelfrey- R) @ Detroit Tigers (Matt Boyd- L)

PELFREY:

– No use in dissecting this guy on a 15-game slate

WHITE SOX OFFENSE:

–  Will likely be without Jose Abreu who left Wednesday’s game against KC with hip and groin injuries

* They have gotten to Boyd pretty well:

+ Tim Anderson: 5-for-14 (all singles, 6 Ks)
+ Jose Abreu: 6-for-12 (2 HR, 2 Ks)
+ Melky Cabrera: 4-for-11 (all singles, 2 BB, 2 Ks)
+ Avisail Garcia 4-for-10 (HR)
–  Todd Frazier: 0-for-11

BOYD:

+ He’s looked a lot better after his disaster of a 2017 debut, which was also against the same White Sox. 16.1 IP, 13 H/7 BB, 3 ER (0 HR), 12 Ks over the last 3 starts.

– Not a great history against the White Sox: 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA in 5 career outings

TIGERS OFFENSE:

+ LHBs have always hit Pelfrey well: Victor Martinez, Alex Avila and Tyler Collins are in play.
+ Justin Upton: 7-for-23 (2 2B, 2 HR, 4 BB, 6 R) over the last 6 games.

* Decent history against Pelfrey:

+ Justin Upton: 4-for-12 (2 2B, 5 BB, 5 Ks)
+ Nick Castellanos: 4-for-10 (2B, HR)
–  Victor Martinez: 5-for-25 (2B, 5 Ks)
–  Ian Kinsler: 4-for-19 (2 2B, HR, 4 Ks)
–  Alex Avila: 4-for-14 (all singles, 4 BB, 5 Ks)

Pittsburgh Pirates (Jameson Taillon- R) @ Miami Marlins (Adam Conley- L)

TAILLON:

+ Strong start to the season: 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, 20 Ks in 25.1 innings

– String of 3 straight quality starts snapped last time out against the Yankees- wasn’t a terrible start (4 ER in 5.1 innings) but not great either.
– The Pirates defense ranks dead last statistically in team defense

PIRATES OFFENSE:

+ Josh Harrison: 8-for-19 (3B, HR, 3 BB, 3 R) over the last 6 games

* Not much history at all against Conley

CONLEY:

+ Been quietly solid this season: 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, 14 Ks in 18 innings. Conley is coming off 2 straight quality starts.
+ Conley skilled the Pirates last June with 9 strikeouts in 6 innings, while only allowing 2 hits and 3 walks

MARLINS OFFENSE:

+ Christian Yelich has a .333 avg in 22 career games against the Pirates with 5 HR and 13 RBI

* No one on the Marlins has ever faced Taillon

Los Angeles Angels (Tyler Skaggs- L) @ Texas Rangers (Nick Martinez- R)

SKAGGS:

+ Been great in the last 2 starts (@KC, vs TOR), albeit, in great matchups: 2 ER in 14 innings.
+ Angels starting pitchers have not allowed more than 2 ER in 12 of their last 13 games and have an ERA of 2.10 in that span.

– Got ripped by the Rangers earlier this season: 8 H/2 BB, 5 ER (2 HR), 5 Ks in 5 innings. Didn’t go well for him prior to this season either: 1-1, 7.90 ERA in 3 starts.

ANGELS OFFENSE:

+ Mike Trout has been a career-long Rangers killer hitting .323 against them. He’s 10-for-29 (3 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 7 R) over the last 7 games.
+ Since 2012, Kole Calhoun has batted .323 at Globe Life Park.

* Notable BvP numbers against Martinez:

+ Kole Calhoun: 8-for-14 (2 2B, HR)
+ CJ Cron: 6-for-12 (2B, 2 HR, 2 BB, 2 Ks)
–  Mike Trout: 3-for-14 (2B, HR, 3 BB)
–  Albert Pujols: 1-for-13 (3 BB, 2 Ks)

MARTINEZ:

+ Only made 1 start this season (vs KC) and it went well: 7 IP, 4 H/1 BB, 1 ER, 3 Ks

–  14-22 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over the course of his career – only 173 Ks in 311 innings

RANGERS OFFENSE:

+ Massive explosion at the plate for 14 runs against the Twins on Wednesday night. However, they did score the majority of those runs against a weak Twins bullpen and all 14 came from the fifth inning on.

+ Ryan Rua does well against LHPs

* Not much history against Skaggs, but Elvis Andrus is 5-for-10 (2B, HR, 3 BB) against him.

Atlanta Braves (Bartolo Colon- R) @ Milwaukee Brewers (Chase Anderson- R)

COLON:

* Colon keeps playing good start-bad start…so if you’re keeping track, tonight is supposed to be good.

BRAVES OFFENSE:

+ LHBs have been crushing Anderson this season, but RHBs hit for .299 against him from 2014-16.

* Notable BvP against Anderson:

+ Matt Kemp: 6-for-17 (2B, 2 HR, 2 Ks)
+ Brandon Phillips: 3-for-11 (HR)
+ Freddie Freeman: 3-for-5 (HR)
***5-for-17 (2B, HR, 6 BB, 2 SB, 5 R) in the last 5 games

ANDERSON:

+ 3 quality starts in 4 tries (only misnomer @ Cubs) – 2-0 with a NL-leading 1.13 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. Anderson has only allowed 3 ER and 22 Ks in 24 innings this season and he’s allowed the fourth-lowest exit velocity of pitchers with at least 50 batted balls this season.
+ Dating back to last season, Anderson is 7-1 with a 2.15 ERA over his last 16 starts.
+ He’s been much better at home over the course of his career and the trend has continued this season.

BREWERS OFFENSE:

+ Brewers bats among some of the hottest in the league, most notably, Eric Thames. He’s got 11 HR and he’ll be looking to tie all-time record of 14 in the month- set by Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols.
+ Hernan Perez has been boppin lately: 6-for-11 (2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 5 R) in that 3-game set vs CIN.

–  Braves starters have only allowed 12 HR so far this season, second-fewest of NL starters.

* Notable BvP numbers against Colon:

–  Jonathan Villar: 1-for-10 (3 Ks)
+ Ryan Braun: 3-for-9 (HR)
+ Eric Thames: 2-for-5 (2 2B, 2 Ks)

Oakland A’s (Jharel Cotton- R) @ Houston Astros (Charlie Morton- R)

COTTON:

* 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.41 WHIP – 2 quality starts in 4 tries, only 15 Ks in 22.2 innings

+ Had a great start against the Astros last season: 6 IP, 2 H/0 BB, 1 ER, 6 Ks (ND)

A’S OFFENSE:

+ Matt Joyce has a 13.9% chase rate on pitches out of the strike zone- 4th lowest in the league.

– During the A’s four-game losing streak, they have a .179 batting average and 43 strikeouts.

* Morton has severe reverse-splits so far this season:
+ RHB: .365 avg, .400 OBP, .577 SLG, .977 OPS
–  LHB:  .176 avg, .310 OBP, .235 SLG, .545 OPS

* Almost no history against Morton

MORTON:

* 1-2 with a 4.29 ERA and 1.57 WHIP – nothing special about Morton just yet. Hasn’t made it passed 6 innings in his last 3 starts and that last one (@ TB) was his worst. His sinker isn’t sinking, thus giving him one of the lowest ground ball rates of his career.

ASTROS OFFENSE:

–  George Springer (hamstring) and Jose Altuve (shoulder) have both missed the last 2 games, and could potentially miss their third straight.

* Just as it is on the other side of things, almost no history against Cotton

Minnesota Twins (Kyle Gibson- R) @ Kansas City Royals (Ian Kennedy- R)

GIBSON:

– Rough start to the season: 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA and 1.94 WHIP
– Faced KC earlier this season and got the no decision: 5 IP, 5 H/2 BB, 3 ER (2 HR), 5 Ks

TWINS OFFENSE:

+ Byron Buxton had a great week and led the Twins with a .556 OBP over the last 5 games. He doesn’t have any extra base hits in that span but it is a trend in the right direction for a guy that has been struggling like no other.
+ Brian Dozier (.429 OBP) and Miguel Sano (.522 OBP) have been in great form over the last week.

* Notable BvP numbers against Kennedy:

+ Eduardo Escobar: 7-for-16 (HR, 4 Ks)

–  Brian Dozier: 4-for-17 (2 HR, 3 BB, 4 Ks)
–  Joe Mauer: 3-for-17 (HR, 4 Ks)
–  Miguel Sano: 0-for-9 (2 BB, 5 Ks)
–  Danny Santana: 0-for-7 (2 Ks)

KENNEDY:

+ Great start to the season, just not getting run support: 0-2 with a 2.08 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. 3 quality starts in 4 tries.
+ 3-1, 3.34 ERA in last 6 starts vs MIN – 33 Ks in 35 innings

– His worst start this season did come @ MIN: 5 IP, 3 H/5 BB, 3 ER, 5 K (L)
– Kennedy has only gotten 2 runs of support in his 26 innings, which is the lowest in the league

ROYALS OFFENSE:

– They have been struggling mightily, so it’ll be good for them to get some home cooking. Currently, the Royals have the lowest batting average and on-base percentage in the league.

* Notable BvP numbers against Gibson:

+ Alcides Escobar: 12-for-34 (2 2B, 5 Ks)
+ Alex Gordon: 10-for-31 (2 2B, HR, 5 BB, 8 Ks)
+ Mike Moustakas: 8-for-23 (2 2B, HR, 4 BB)
+ Paulo Orlando: 6-for-11 (2 2B, 2 BB, 3 Ks)

–  Eric Hosmer: 8-for-33 (3 2B, 4 BB, 6 Ks)
–  Salvador Perez: 4-for-27 (HR, 5 Ks)
–  Lorenzo Cain: 4-for-25 (3 BB, 6 Ks)

Cincinnati Reds (Tim Adelman- R) @ St. Louis Cardinals (Lance Lynn- R)

ADELMAN:

+ 2.70 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 12 Ks in 10 innings this season

–  Did allow 5 ER in 12 innings to the Cardinals last season

REDS OFFENSE:

* Notable BvP numbers against Lynn:

+ Joey Votto: 10-for-22 (2 2B, 7 BB, 6 Ks)
+ Scooter Gennett: 7-for-21 (2 2B, 4 BB, 3 Ks)

–  Zack Cozart: 6-for-31 (2B, 2 HR, 2 Ks)
–  Billy Hamilton: 3-for-19 (all singles, 2 BB, 6 Ks)
–  Eugenio Suarez: 2-for-8 (all singles, 2 Ks)

LYNN:

+ 2 straight quality starts (vs PIT, @ MIL): 13 IP, 6 H/3 BB, 1 ER, 12 Ks

CARDINALS OFFENSE:

+ Put up 14 runs in both halves of their double-header yesterday. Reds pitching has been among some of the worst in the league thus far so look for the Cards to take advantage of this.
+ Dexter Fowler is on a roll lately going 8-for-20 (2 2B, HR, 3 BB, 5 R). Randall Grichuk, Kolten Wong, Yadier Molina and Greg Garcia all have an OBP of at least .438 over the last week.

* Not much history against Adelman.

Colorado Rockies (Kyle Freeland- L) @ Arizona Diamondbacks (Robbie Ray- L)

FREELAND:

* 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. Not sure what to make of this kid yet- his 2 quality starts came against weak hitting teams (Giants and Dodgers) against LHPs, but they were both at Coors Field.

+ Freeland has induced a 63% ground ball rate on batted balls, which is tops in the majors

ROCKIES OFFENSE:

+ Charlie Blackmon is on a 12-game hitting streak

* Notable BvP numbers against Ray:

+ Charlie Blackmon: 11-for-19 (3B, 2 HR, 2 BB)
+ Nolan Arenado: 6-for-18 (2B, 3B, HR, 2 BB, 4 Ks)
+ Carlos Gonzalez: 4-for-12 (2B, HR, 4 Ks)
+ Gerardo Parra: 3-for-5 (2B)

–  DJ LeMahieu: 4-for-19 (2 2B, 4 Ks)

RAY:

+ Diamondbacks have won all 4 of Ray’s starts this season

– Always love Ray’s strikeout upside, but control issues have continued to haunt him- 14 BB in 23.2 IP. He’s also allowing the third-highest average exit velocity.
– Allowed 21 ER in last 35 innings against the Rockies

DIAMONDBACKS OFFENSE:

+ These D-Backs bats have been scorching hot at home, and they lead the majors with 27 SBs.

* No history against Freeland

Philadelphia Phillies (Jerad Eickhoff- R) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (Kenta Maeda- R)

EICKHOFF:

+ Phils start their West coast road trip on a six-game winning streak
+ Off to a remarkable start: 0-1 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.05 WHIP – 25 Ks in 24.2 innings. Eickhoff also has 3 quality starts in 4 tries.

PHILLIES OFFENSE:

+ LHBs are hitting .341 with 4 HR against Maeda this season – OBP: .396, SLG: .707, OPS: 1.103. Michael Saunders hit his first HR of the season this week and he’s been getting into a groove lately.
+ Maikel Franco: .350 avg, 2 HR and 10 RBI over the last 7 games. One of the reasons for his success has been the ability of Cesar Hernandez and Aaron Altherr getting on base ahead of him.

* Notable BvP numbers against Maeda:

+ Freddy Galvis: 3-for-4 (HR)
***7-for-19 in his last 5 games***
+ Maikel Franco: 2-for-5
–  Aaron Altherr: 1-for-5 (HR, 3 Ks)
–  Cesar Hernandez: 1-for-4 (HR, 2 BB)

MAEDA:

+ Second-largest favorite (-195) of the day, not sure I’d agree with that

– Brutal start to the season: 1-2 with an 8.05 ERA and 1.53 WHIP – 19 Ks in 19 innings

DODGERS OFFENSE:

+ Corey Seager hit .423 over his career against the Phils. He’s also 10-for-24 (2B, 3 HR, 5 BB, 5 R) over his last 7 games. Justin Turner is getting on base (.406 OBP in last 7 games) but only has one extra-base hit in that span.

– Yasiel Puig is 5-for-26 with 8 strikeouts over the last 7 games

San Diego Padres (Luis Perdomo- R) @ San Francisco Giants (Jeff Samardzija- R)

PERDOMO:

+ Takes on a struggling Giants offense in a great pitcher’s park

–  Not a great start to the season with a 6.97 ERA and 1.45 WHIP
–  Got rocked by the Giants already this season: 7 H, 1 BB, 5 ER (1 HR) in 5.1 innings

PADRES OFFENSE:

* Notable BvP numbers against Samardzija:

+ Erick Aybar: 5-for-12 (2B) – the guy has ridiculous BvP numbers against every pitcher
+ Yangervis Solarte: 4-for-10 (all singles, 2 BB)
+ Ryan Schimpf: 3-for-9 (3B, HR, 4 Ks)

–  Wil Myers: 0-for-10 (2 BB, 4 Ks)

SAMARDZIJA:

+ Takes on a struggling Padres offense in a great pitcher’s park
+ 4-1, 3.52 ERA in last 6 starts vs SD – 41 Ks in 38.1 innings

–  Awful start to the season: 0-4 with a 7.40 ERA and 1.52 WHIP

GIANTS OFFENSE:

* Not much exposure to Perdomo, but a lot of these Giants have hit him well in the short-term: Brandon Belt (3-for-10, HR) and Joe Panik: 4-for-7 (3 2B) are the most relevant here.
