JD’s Junk Yard Dogs for DK NHL DFS April 14th 2017 Playoff Edition

Already day 3 of the playoffs.  Only about 2 months left.  I am off to a bad start getting caught on the wrong end of shutouts the last two nights.  I least I know lots of others were on the Hawks as I still managed to minimize my losses last night with some head to head wins.

We are on to game 2s tonight and get to see how teams react after some poor offensive outings / great goaltending outings in game one.  The Wild dominated the Blues but came up short due to Jake Allen.  The King shut down the Habs.   And the Oilers found out the playoffs are tough, even with the amazing crowd behind them.  So let’s get on to today’s Junk Yard Dogs

The theory behind this is based on @choppodong ‘s Bottom Up line-up building videos, which if you haven’t watched you really should. You can find them here ( YouTube ). For more detailed versions, join dfsarmy.com‘s VIP program and gain full access. Use OPENINGDAY to unlock a no-catch 7-day pass that shows you cheatsheets, stats pages, the optimizer, and our slack forums with access to all our coaches focused on making you a better player.

I am not one of the coaches but am really just sharing my own research and trying and give back to this community which has helped me out. This is focused on cash games on DK. For the most part I am not speaking to what position they or their teams are in for today’s specific games, just pointing out players you might want to look at for your bottom up build. These guys provide value for their price.

Remember, for value we are looking for players hitting about .6 points or more per $1000 in price. Due to always having small slates in the playoffs, I am looking at players with a max price of $5000 instead of my usual $4500. This isn’t to say there aren’t value players at higher cost, but the purpose of this blog is to help you find those cheaper plays that leave you lot of cap room to fit in those studs you want
Numbers shown are their price and Avg points over the last 10 games, and all players listed have hit value in at least 6 of those 10 games. In some cases with Defense, there is another number in brackets. This number is their Avg points from shots and blocked shots alone. These players are hitting value on Avg even without being involved in scoring.

DEFENCE

Nurse (Edm)  3.1 k 2.7 pts (2)

Larsson (Edm) 3.2 k 2.3 pts

Schlemko (SJ) 3.3 k 2.6 pts (2.1)

J Johnson (Cbs) 3.4 k 2.7 pts

Girardi (NYR) 3.5 k 2.4 pts

Russell (Edm) 3.9 k 3.8 pts ( 2.7)

Vlasic ( SJ) 4.2 k 3.9 pts

Once again most of the value options on D are from the Oilers/Sharks series.  Though they are the highest cost, Russell and Vlasic might be a solid floor D pairing for you tonight.  I am sure I will have at least one of them in my lineup.

WINGERS

There are no wingers on the slate that truly meet the criteria of cheap value plays.  But there is one player you might want to take a look at, and that Sobotka ( STL).  He has only played two games since returning to the NHL, but he has put up 4 and 4.5 pt nights in those two games.  At a cost of only 3.1 k, he is tough to overlook.

CENTRE.

Letestu (Edm) 3.4 k 2.6 pts

Hertl ( SJ) 4.3 k 3.1 pts

Hanzal ( Min) 4.5 k 3 pts

For a change, we actually have a few centres to offer you tonight. Hanzal might be the most interesting of the group….IF Min can solve Jake Allen tonight.

In Goal, Min is the biggest vegas favorite tonight at around a -200 while the other favorites ( Mtl, Pit, and Edm) range more -130 to -155 area.  All the games have an O/U of 5 except Pit/Cbs which is a 5.5.  Given the way Allen stoned the Wild I am surprised to see them listed so high.  @choppodong always says don’t get cute with goalies in cash games, so that would have lean towards Dubnyk tonight.  If you went with Fleury though as the next biggest favorite,  I would understand that.  There is only $100 difference between them.  In fact, there is only $300 difference from top to bottom of the starting goalies, so there isn’t really much cost savings to be found there.

Good luck tonight all, see you in chat!
