DFS Army “Point After” Review/Preview Week 14 NFL

This week our esteemed founder of the DFS Army, @FfootballGeek, is on his annual vacation.  And he has once again entrusted me to bring you the quality of game breakdowns you’ve come to depend on for your DFS research.  It’s my pleasure to dig in and start this week off with MY somewhat regular review/preview article wrapping Week 13 and peeking ahead to Week 14.  As always, we snap the ball for the “Point After” with a look at last week’s winners.

I would be remiss if I didn’t make sure we were “laces out” with our boy @HunterSinclair and his full-on reppin’ of the DFS Army in the King of the Beach Finals from Atlantis Resort in the beautiful Bahamas.  A couple of weeks ago we showed his win and lineup, along with cash associated with it.  This week, he was flown to a weekend of fun and competition and the shot at winning a ton more cash.  Hunter is one of our best GPP players, so this shouldn’t shock anyone that he put together a go-for-broke type in an attempt to win.  Some of the stars failed to align, but this lineup was good enough for 38th place and a sweet bonus of $6,000 large.  Hunter may be a little disappointed, but we in the Army are more than proud he’s one of ours.  Big props, dude!

On the left (or first on mobile) is the overall 38th place finish.  On the right (second) is the lineup.  I want to point out a couple things:  1- Look at the chalk.  You just don’t need to go nuts with contrarian plays in smaller tourneys and larger leagues.  You just don’t.  Contrarian is a sexy term this year that tons of players are overusing…..incorrectly.  2- But, you do need to take a couple shots at winning something when the prizes are so top heavy.  Just do so smartly please.

Brady is Brady.  Even in a 13 pt favored game, he can throw for 4 TDs.  We saw it from him just a couple weeks ago, and he has weapons.  When everyone was expecting Blount, it wasn’t terrible to bank on Brady being that his floor usually safe and he might surprise with some contrarian game from Belichick.

Next is Tim Hightower.  With the news all up in the air over Ingram and Hightower, Hunter clearly took a stand.  When Ingram was announced as available, most just had too many questions to use one or the other.  That was the “safe” play.  But, Hunter saw this as an opportunity to gamble on Ingram being more of a decoy and Hightower getting the load.  Again, we saw this unexpectedly earlier in the year, so it’s not some whackadoodle, unfounded brain fart.  It’s a legit thought.  These are the kinds of “contararian” plays you use.  You don’t grab some backup just trying to get some guy at 1% ownership.

This is also the kind of thing we continually preach in the DFS Army.  We teach the fundamentals and try and correct what the industry incorrectly pimps as some new fangled strategy.  Don’t get too cute with contrarian.  Instead, put the smart thoughts in play that others are afraid to, but still are founded in logic like Hunter did.  Well played, bro!

Here is a look at our other winners that remained stateside….

The Winner’s Circle

I’m carving out a little space for you to look at this total.  $7000!  I hope Beazer isn’t loading his grocery cart with generic ketchup this week.  It’s time to buy Heinz, dude!!  This is a sweet score for the week and it was rewarded.  Beazer told us he enters the $300 Monster once per year and this one happened to hit for him.  Well timed for sure.  Now, I’m not going to call the guy a liar or anything, but NostraChoppus speaks……………Beazer will give the Monster another shot or two this year.

We receive winning lineups from our members every week.  Sure, Brees got a lot of us, but some of us also diversified and were able to dodge total losses.  I hope you have a community that also teaches you to do the same.  If not, you need to read below and figure out how to become part of the best little community on the web where the teaching is real and the value is large.

The second image is mine from FantasyDraft.  We have joined there in masse this season and many of us have found those games pretty beatable.  What else can I saw about “rake free” head-to-head contests?  If you don’t see the advantage to playing in those, well, we need to sit down and chat.  5th out of 554 isn’t a bad finish, either, and is testament to another mantra we shout in the Army…………toss that cash lineup in a GPP “just in case.”  When it goes off, you will kick yourself if you only double your money and miss out on a nice cash.  Cash lineups do go boom, too…..just not terribly often.

Hopefully, you see some army helmet avatars on the sites you play.  If you do, just be warned we aren’t soft players.  We are going to be fundamentally sound and if you beat us, you’ve earned it.  Even in weeks where the popular plays shit the bed, we are still going to be there.  We teach our members to play sound, but hedge with some upside.  This makes us hard to beat no matter what the week does to everyone.  Watch for us.  We are everywhere.

Week 13 in Review

KC – Just don’t count out this defense this year.  They seem to have the “it” factor.

ATL – I keep going back to the RB committee here and am glad I continue to avoid it week in and week out.  You might say Freeman scored twice, and you are right, but 15 carries and 4 receptions isn’t “volume” for that price when his mate saw 12 carries that should have been his.

MIA – Seriously….it’s ok to get up now.  BAL went home with your lunch money and your cheerleaders.

BAL – Flacco abberation.  Don’t chase the points.  Pitta, either.  West, either.  Defense is stout though.

SF – Nice game, Kaep.  Didn’t bother to stand behind center, either.  I really hate that guy.  Sorry if you’re a fan.

CHI – Howard follows through with the season long beat down of the SF 49ers.  You’d think they’d adjust, but they don’t.  Next week, the Jets.  Hmmmmmm.  Forte anyone?

PHI – Avoid until they actually give you something.  Ertz isn’t enough to count as “something,” either.

CIN – There is a little goodness here, but I’m not routinely searching for it.  There are almost always better paper options.

HOU – If DHop needs an agent to get him the fuck out of there, I’m available for hire.  Wow.

GB – Maybe snow isn’t a good thing for anyone.  5 morons splitting carries in the backfield?  Hard pass.

DEN – This just in, people are still chasing Booker.  This just in, also….people are still losing.  He sucks, guys.  18 for 35 yds only catches TJ Yeldon’s eyes.

JAX – While I’m offering to be DHop’s agent, I might as well pick up ARob, too.  My Lord these two deserve different teams.

LA – NostraChoppus say:  “Fisher will toss in the subtle brag that he held NE to only 26 points in Foxboro.”  The rest of us will try and tell him he still got his ass beat.  Even Fox switched off the game to another at about 10min left.  He will get the last laugh because he somehow got another contract extension.  I’m assuming he has dirt on Kroenke and is extorting him.

NE – Gostkowski might have been the play here.  But, Blount was predictable, too.

DET – Defense is improving.  Take note.  Under 16 points allowed 7 of past 8 games, I believe…Lots to say here, but I’ll keep it short.

NO – Hey, Brees, you left something on my sofa yesterday.  It was a huge pile of shit.  I’d appreciate it if you’d come back and clean up after yourself.

BUF – Is there a weapon in Buffalo besides Shady?  I don’t think so.  Please stop trying to guess this offense and stick with the volume producer.  You think you’re cute every week.  I think you’re reloading your kids college tuition on fantasy sites weekly.

OAK – Derek Carr is a weekly consideration.  Lats Murray and Melvin Gordon are the most confusing backs ever.  They aren’t super great, but damn if they don’t get in the endzone.

WAS – Jamison Crowder is this year’s Eric Decker on FanDuel.  I’ve said it a few times.  I’ll say it again.  Jamison Crowder is this year’s Eric Decker on FanDuel.

ARI – I think we all know David Johnson now.  He has changed the offense in ARI.  The rest are sort of unpredictable to me, but Larry Fitz is still pretty good, too.

NYG – Eli paid his cable bill again this week.  He needs DirecTV, though.

PIT – How Leveon Bell isn’t getting in the endzone is absolutely mind boggling to me.  When he does regress, it might be for like 5 in the same game.

TB – I thought Mike Evans would see about 3o targets this week.  I was only 10% right.  Ouch.  Glad I didn’t spend up to get him in more than one lineup because I really wanted to.  I really, really wanted to.

SD – Is Gordon really the focal point here?  Is Rivers tiring out down the stretch, or does he have nothing for receiving weapons when a running back and TE on Medicare are his primary targets?

Disclaimer:  I attempt to yuck it up in these reviews.  Don’t take any of it personally.  I’d never say any of it to the players’ faces.  Well, I might actually say it to Fisher or Kroenke’s.

If you enjoy this kind of interaction, consider following our team on Twitter.  I’m @ChoppoDong, but we have others.  Look for our other coaches…. , and a couple others I didn’t see on my timeline to get in here.  Follow us and let’s build a community that leads by teaching and sharing.

Oh, and my little coupon gift is an easy one.  BECOME A MEMBER – If you decide to become a member and jump into our slack, take advantage or our cheatsheets and player picks for all sports, utilize our Domination Station optimizer that helped two guys build Bahamas lineups, and generally get complete access to our list of coaches, my code is CHOP.  Use it for 20% off the life of your membership.  Seriously, I drop $20/mo down to $16/mo for you.  Ummm….look around at lineup sellers and other subscription sites.  We’d clearly rather keep your bankroll in your account than take it for ourselves.  As we add features and incur expenses, I can’t guarantee our price is always $20/mo.  However, I can guarantee your $16/mo never goes up……if you jump now.  It really makes no sense to wait until “maybe next NFL season.”  You might want to do it now.  Just sayin’.

Week 14 Preview

I’m still waiting on some of the lines to post, but I am already watching closely.  I can tell you the highest implied total teams, so far, are NE (26), NO, TB, and DET (25.5 each), ATL (25.25), and DAL (25).  The lowest are BAL (17.5), JAX (18.5), and CHI (18.5).  I already like matchups for a few players Thursday night and likely won’t completely fade that game.  I see some defenses that are not normally called out, too, like DET, NE, and CIN.

For the rest, you’ll just have to wait for the Vegas Lines mid week.  @FfootballGeek will provide the player picks late week for our VIPs.  I’m only in line for the game breakdown.  Should be some fun though…….well, for me.  LOL.  Until then, have a good start to your week and find the coaching team in Slack.  HOOAH!
