MLB Daily Fantasy Player Picks and Podcast – September 9th

  • You’ll see a lot of plays from the Pittsburgh Pirates below. The forecast is calling for a lot of rain/thunderstorms so be aware of that.
  • The weather in Chicago (White Sox), New York (Yankees) and St. Louis also calls for rain/thunderstorms. I don’t like this news for Carlos Martinez, but stay tuned.

PITCHERS:

-Shine Bright Like a Diamond-

  • Clayton Kershaw (Los Angeles Dodgers @ Miami Marlins) – He’s baaaaaack! To be honest, it might not be the best time to roll him out on most sites, given the fact that this will be his first start since getting absolutely hammered by the Pirates on the Sunday Night ESPN game back on June 26th. There’s no doubt that the Dodgers will keep their God-like ace on a strict pitch count tonight, but his price has only shown that relevant dip on FanDuel, and that’s where I might take the chance on him, if anywhere.
  • Jose Fernandez (Miami Marlins vs. Los Angeles Dodgers) – Boy, that guy going head-to-head against Kershaw is pretty darn good too, ey? Fernandez has been excellent at home in his career with the Marlins, but he will have to deal with a plethora of lefty bats, which are hitting a respectable .256 against him (RHBs: .206). However, current Dodgers are only 10-56 against him lifetime with only two extra base hits and a detrimental 21 strikeouts.
  • Carlos Martinez (St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers) – The hard-throwing righty has done nothing but skill the Brewers this season, and I don’t think there will be any shortage of that tonight at Busch Stadium. In three starts against the Brew Crew in 2016, Martinez has an astounding 32 strikeouts in 19 innings. He has faced them twice in his last 10 starts, but hopefully the beer makers haven’t gotten a hang of him yet.
  • Also consider: Yu Darvish (Texas Rangers @ Los Angeles Angels), Madison Bumgarner (San Francisco Giants @ Arizona Diamondbacks)

-Middle of the Road-

  • Danny Salazar (Cleveland Indians @ Minnesota Twins)
  • Michael Pineda (New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays)
  • Tanner Roark (Washington Nationals vs. Philadelphia Phillies)

-Sneaky, Sneaky-

  • Yordano Ventura (Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox)
  • Blake Snell (Tampa Bay Rays @ New York Yankees)

HITTERS:

-Shine Bright Like a Diamond-

  • Washington Nationals vs. Philadelphia Phillies – Wow…me, you, your grandma, your grandma’s pharmacist, your grandma’s pharmacist’s son and roughly 60% of folks absolutely whiffed on the Nats stack last night. However, I think it’d be wise to give them another chance in an even better spot against the Phils’ Jake Thompson, who carries a 1-5 record with a 6.48 ERA into this game. I can guarantee you that most people will move on from the Nats for breaking their hearts last night and that’s OK with us. This narrative is just too easy to see- it’s all about Trea Turner, Daniel Murphy and Bryce Harper.
  • Brian Dozier (Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Indians) – Let the good times roll! Dozier has 18 double-digit games since August 12th and 10 of them in his last 12 games- that’s the kind of things legends are made of. He’s also 11-for-23 against tonight’s opposing starter, Danny Salazar and they’re in a hitter’s park. Seriously, do you need any other information? I think I pretty much nailed it all right there.
  • Edwin Encarnacion (Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox) – Back in April, I witnessed a woman get her face demolished atop the Green Monster via a homer hit by Encarnacion against tonight’s starter, Rick Porcello. That is a mere formality of the situation, but if you’re in Toronto sitting in left field tonight, bring a glove…or hockey equipment. Ya know, for protection. E2 is also 13-for-34 in his lifetime against Porcello with three dongs.

-Middle of the Road-

  • Gregory Polanco, Andrew McCutchen & Jung Ho Kang (Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds) – I listed this group yesterday and feel confident that they all get it in tonight against Tim Adelman, who has given up 10 homers in 40.1 innings this season.

….and you know what? The rest of the Pirates go here too!

  • Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds – Going back to the well against the Reds just like I did yesterday. I’m willing to roll either handedness of hitter out there tonight and the cheap Pirates are guys you want to take a look at: Josh Bell, John Jaso, Matt Joyce, David Freese and Jordy Mercer. As always, check to see who is in the lineup since the Pirates have so much depth.

-Sneaky, Sneaky-

  • Houston Astros vs. Chicago Cubs – Going against John Lester has its benefits (swiping bag after bag after bag) and this lineup has the ability to do that over-and-over again tonight. George Springer, Jose Altuve and Yuli Gurriel are all excellent GPP options and I could even see using them all together in a stack. Granted, Lester and the Cubs are -126 favorites tonight but I’m going to give Vegas the stiff-arm in that regard.
  • Raimel Tapia (Colorado Rockies @ San Diego Padres) – No, no power to see here but he is just a tick under $3K on FanDuel and that’s just too cheap for a leadoff hitter going against Luis Perdomo.
