Chasing Birdies- Mawhee’s PGA Champ.Screenshot_20160723-220530 [29845] Breakdown for Draftkings Fantasy Golf:

@dfsarmy_Matt

So earlier this week I touched on the test our 2016 PGA field will face at Baltusrol.  I pointed out the importance that accuracy, positioning, and capitalizing on opportunities will have.  If you’ve talked with me this week you’ve heard me say this but here it comes again.  I expect Baltusrol to be a true test of golf.  Players will need to take what the course gives them and not force things. Trying to overpower the course and the field will not be a winning strategy this week.  Golfers who don’t take a methodical approach may find themselves in one of the many hazardous waiting to give them the double bogey blues.  One of the focuses of my research this week was par 4 scoring, remember Baltusrol plays par 70.  Many holes this week will present our golfers with approach shots of 200+ either into the green or from the tee on par 3’s.  Because of this I also looked at players birdie% when playing that distance approach.  Lets move on and I’ll breakdown some of my top plays from each price range.

Top Tier: ($9,000 +)

Dustin Johnson (11,600)-  I’m not sure how you can start anywhere else but with Johnson.  He’s had top tens in 14 of his last 19 starts.  Just take a sec and let that sink in, yeah I could really just stop right there.  If you need more he leads the tour in Birdie of better % on par 4s and ranks 10th in birdie or better from 200+.  Johnson played excellent golf last week at the RBC I expect it to continue this week at the PGA Champ.

Henrik Stenson (10,500)-  Stenson has been in amazing form recently.  Over his last 4 tournaments he’s got a adj round score of 65.5, driving accuracy is 78.1, and he’s been on the G.I.R. 81.3% of the time.  Stenson should come into the PGA flying high after his impressive Open victory.  His game sets up nicely here, I’ll definitely have a healthy dose of Stenson in my LU’s.

Sergio Garcia (9,400)- Since finishing 34th at the Masters Garcia has finished outside the top 5 just once a stretch which includes a victory at the Byron Nelson.  Sergio is a great player, he’s accurate, with distance, and ranks in the top 20 on tour of birdie % from 200+.  He’ll be around come Sun if he can keep up his great play.

Notable Top Tier Plays – Phil Mickelson, Rory Mcllroy, and Jordan Spieth.

**I’m not as high on Jason Day this week.  I will have limited exposure. If he’s on we know what can happen.  I’m just not predicting it this week.

Mid Tier: ($7,000-$9,000)

Matt Kuchar-  The top ten machine.  He’s solid off the tee, solid on the greens, and has solid #’s in all the advance stats we’ve talked about this week.  As has been the case each week all year it seems like, Kuchar is a solid play in all formats again this week.

Zack Johnson – This pick has a lot of gut feel that goes along with it.  At the biggest of stages he seems to step up, not get rattled, and play his game.  Remember Zack has that major pedigree on his record.  I look for him to have a solid week at this years PGA.

Brooks Koepka- Due to updated injury news regarding Koepka’s ankle injury I’m no longer using him in any format this week.  As of now he is still teeing it up come Thur ****play at your own risk****

Notable Mid Tier Plays – Charles Schwartzel, Brent Snedeker, Russell Knox, and Steve Stricker.

**This price bracket is full of solid plays this week.  I named what 7 guys, and that’s out of 11 I have from this price range in my player pool. Tons of value in this range, TONS.

Value Plays: ($7,000 and below)

Andy Sullivan– He comes in this week making the cut in his last 6 tournaments all of which he finished in the top 25.  In his last 5 he has avg. 15.6 birdies a round.  Sullivan looks to be a very solid value play and priced at $6,100 he’s going to be a chalk play this week.

Kevin Na– Na is ranked tenth on tour in par 4 scoring and over his last 3 tourneys he avg under 28 puts per round.  If your not familier with the stat “puts per round” going 12 rounds and avg 27.8 is very very good.  With the stats he has produced over his career and in the short term he’s a solid play at $6,700.

Notable Value Plays- Francesco Molinari and Emiliano Grillo

20160721_092239***Keep in mind this week when setting LU’s if your a army member who doesn’t play fantasy golf a lot. It’s not the year 2000 and Tiger Woods isn’t teeing it up.  No one is a sure thing, don’t have to much exposure to any one player.  Reach out to me on slack if you have any questions. Good luck$$
